Education in Northern Cyprus
Education in Northern Cyprus is compulsory and free from 5 to 18 years old in Public schools and colleges. The teaching language is predominantly Turkish. English is taught as a second language, along with German or French as an elective course. Students selected after an entrance exam from the age of eleven can enter one of the four 'Marif Colleges' where education in English Language is predominant. The diplomas obtained at the end of the education given by kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and high schools have international equivalence.
Private schools and colleges
Private schools and colleges charge fees, and prices vary by institution, student age, and the academic year. Even though they are considered 'private' institutions, they must follow the principles of core curriculum, assessment, discipline and teacher and teaching standards approved by the Ministry of Education.
